Jared Leto is on a roll! The Thirty Seconds to Mars frontman continued his hot streak for the acting side of his career by picking up a nomination for Best Supporting Actor at the Oscars.
Leto, who has received rave reviews for his role as transgendered AIDS patient Rayon in the film ‘Dallas Buyers Club,’ just won the Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actor this past weekend. His competition in the category will be Barkhad Abdi (‘Captain Phillips’), Bradley Cooper (‘American Hustle’), Michael Fassbender (’12 Years a Slave’) and Jonah Hill (‘The Wolf of Wall Street’).
Speaking in Variety, Leto says, “I think I needed to go away in order to have something to say again. I said to myself, ‘Let’s go make this film and see if there’s anything left in there for me. Is it going to be another experience that falls short? Am I going to have my heart broken again? It’s kind of like a relationship: Let me see if I can love again.”
Even though Leto’s ‘Dallas Buyers Club’ success has once again made him a hot property in Hollywood, the actor stated, “I haven’t read a script since. I’m not actively looking [for my next role].” Leto stated in Variety that he does feel he’ll act again, but added, “It’s got to be great. It’s got to be a genius director, an impeccable script and an absolutely incredible role with a team of wonderful people. Those are the parameters. And it happens.”
But acting can take a back seat for Leto as Thirty Seconds to Mars continue to do well. The band’s ‘Love, Lust, Faith + Dreams’ album was released last year and has already spawned the hit singles, ‘Up in the Air,’ ‘Do or Die’ and ‘City of Angels.’
The Oscars will air Sunday, March 2 on ABC at 7PM ET/4PM PT.
